Goodbye Instagram, Hello Again Camera

1.10.2013

I don't miss Instagram. Like I said in my last post, I gave it up a few weeks ago. While I loved sharing my photos with you all, Instagram ruined memories for me. When you take pictures with a camera, they are usually much less frequent than when you take them with your phone every day. I don't have to hope for likes when I print out a picture or take one. I noticed that the more I used Instagram, the more I stopped using my camera. I hadn't used it in months when I decided to quit. In recent days, I really missed taking pictures with my camera. I even thought about how I wanted to take photography seriously. Not family or portrait. I'm not really into that. Something more me: fashion, food, journalistic. I asked a friend of mine through work, who is an aspiring model, if I could take pictures of him. He humbly obliged. I have a few more people (boyfriend included) who are also more than willing to get free pictures in exchange for adding them to my portfolio. It's really exciting. According to my horoscope, this year is about my career and social aspects of my life because my love life is finally in order. How true is that? So here I am, focusing. Driven. It's pretty damn cool.

Because it was raining yesterday, my BFF and I decided to spend our day off together. One thing led to another and we were snapping photos. It really made me miss my tripod & convinced me to buy a remote for my camera as well. Now, my friend is no professional photographer & I'm really surprised the lighting looks so well in these pictures compared to how dim it was in real life. Don't let the pictures fool you. It was not that bright and I was not wearing shiny eye makeup ;) But I'm excited to print out these pictures of my son and I. I actually had better pictures, however, my son absolutely did not want to cooperate one bit for these photos. No matter how many times I told him to make a sweet face, he wanted to be a crazy. Oh well. This is my son we are talking about here. He's a character. When I'm old and saggy, I can't wait to look at these photos. I think I'm grody now, I'll be looking back and appreciating my good looks. My eye lids weren't that saggy and my body wasn't that flabby as I think it is now. Women! Psshht. Am I right? I'm kind of bummy that Mike was at work. We barely take pictures together! I should start a new project with him and I called "Picture a Week" where we take photos together & as a family at least once a week. No matter how silly or inappropriately timed, it needs to be done. We can't let these memories pass us by! Memories are well worth documenting.

Oh, I also added a new task on my 30 for 30 list in the right sidebar since I accomplished one already. Every time I accomplish one, I get to add one more. The new item is to "get a tattoo". That should be fine, right? Except that I decided my tattoo would be under my boob. It already sounds painful. I even scratched my forearm with my catlike claws to see how much pain I could tolerate in a sensitive spot. Lemme just say how annoying it was to endure the scratch. Im sure that it will be annoying but I really want it. I mean, I pushed a 9lb baby, without meds, out of my body. That means I can surely get this tattoo without being a wimp? We shall see.

Until next time my friends, be safe and enjoy your upcoming weekend!

PS (off subject but related to the first picture), random thought: Can you believe that there are people out there in the world that find it creepy or weird to kiss their child on the lips? What gives?!

I know what you mean about getting caught up in instagram and not using your actual camera. I've done it a few times and I think it's partially the reason why I feel my photos have gotten worse (apparently to others they haven't but that's just how I feel lol). I think instagram has made me somewhat lazy when it comes to photography and it's kind of sad. =/

I completely agree. My photos are horrible! It's like starting from the bottom up again! lol

I am so there. I hardly take my camera anywhere anymore because I know I have my phone and Instagram. It's made me lazy and my photography suffer. I really want to build up my portfolio as well but I'm just not sure where I want to take this photography thing yet. I do miss you on Instagram tho!

I agree. I'm really trying to use my camera a lot more this year! I love instagram, but it's easy to get caught up with it. I love these pictures. I need to start stepping out from behind the camera, though. Hoping to work on that this year. ♥
People really think that? Ridic! Those are the best kisses.

I don't use my instagram as often as I did before, and usually when I do, its a picture I've taken with my camera. I think I'm slowly using interest in it. I plan to use my camera more as well!
I have two tattoo's. I have a half sleeve, and I have one on my side/rib. They actually weren't painful at all for me, I think once you get passed the feeling of the needle, you get used to it.

& I don't understand it honestly, with people finding it creepy to kiss their kids on the lips. I don't have kids yet, but I'm sure I'll kiss my kids on their lips.

I love this post! I completely agree. I haven't gotten rid of my instagram but I have started a 365 day project to force me to pick up my camera and be creative! You and your son are just adorable. I love the picture.

GET THE TATTOO!!
I want a tripod and a clicker just because I'm never in photos. Like ever. It hit me one day that I want the kids to look back and see mommy in pics too. Not just see a bunch of pictures of them.

Also, I love your outfit! I need a hat like that so so so desperately. I don't think it's creepy to kiss your kid on the lips. Fin and I kiss like that.
It's impossible for me to get normal pics of my kids too-mostly Fin. Maybe it's a boy thing?! Their age? I dunno. I'm rambley. I've had caffeine and no sleep. blah.

Okay, you've given me confidence that I can get through the pain for this tattoo! How big are yours?

Hi! It's so nice to meet you!!! I can't wait to see the pictures you come up with on your 365 course!

I really do think it's a 5/6 year old thing. They are so rambunctious at this age! Side note: I cannot believe I spelled rambunctious right on the first try lol

I know exactly what you mean by getting caught up with using instagram than your actual camera! That happens to me to.

My half sleeve covers my left forearm, and my side one is not small but not huge lol, if that makes sense.

I've been thinking of getting a tattoo for foreverrrrrrrrrr and even have my idea for a few years since we're done having kids, but i still haven't done it! i'm a chicken. haha. BUT YES about the camera stuff, I do love INstagram for the fun, but for true pictures I'm so glad my hubby finally got me a nice camera and I'm LOVING creating memories with it!! A real camera is so awesome, my whole childhood I thought i would be a photographer, or photojournalist! I guess in a weird way blogging is sort of like a mild, motherly form of photojournalism, aha!! You're so pretty!

I love instagram and everything, but ever since I got my dslr.. I hardly use instagram. I take my camera EVERYWHERE. It's actually a good thing that my camera phone completely SUCKS. So I'm not often tempted to use it over my real camera.
I'm also trying to get more into photography by capturing memories and my day. Asking friends and my sisters to model for me lol. Photography is awesome.
btw I love you 30 before 30 list. I want to write a list just for this year and follow it.

I love your blog so much! :)
